The recording artist Afroman will perform Friday, Sept. 2, in Hilo at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and “An Evening with Afroman” includes an abundance of Hawaii hip hop artists: The BarzLive Hip Hop Crew (Kyle Strngz, Elly Edda, MC SlashMics, Lil Homie, Mario and Eminemily), St. Dela Crim, Lopaka Rootz Band, and Brandy G.

The show will be hosted by Casey808 and Nehemiah Nihipali.

Tickets are available on WeStrandedEvents.com for $70 general admission; $100 for the floor.

Afroman hit international success with his platinum song “Because I got High” (2000).

In 2002, he received his first Grammy nomination. Since then, he has continued to release hits including “Crazy Rap (Colt 45 &2 Zig Zags)” (2004), “One Hit Wonder” (2014), “A Homeboy Can Survive” (2020) and his latest project with Blazar, “Step it up” (2021).

Before Afroman performs, there will be a number of opening acts.

Brandy G is a Polynesian American rapper, singer, and songwriter. “She is an aggressive lyricist, with a confrontational and a risqué delivery,” according to a press release. Brandy had great success with her debut single, “No Love,” and released her first LP, “You Already Know,” in 2022.

Lopaka Rootz “is an upbeat positive musician sharing good vibes and aloha through his various songs and styles of reggae music,” according to the press release. His hits include “Living My Best Life,” “Blue Clear Sky” and “Lemon Pie.”

Maui-based St. Dela Crim is flying in for his third Big Island show. His previous hits include, “Sunny Days” (2021), “LLCB” (2021), and his latest single, “Respond,” is rapidly gaining views.

The BarZLive Hip Hop Crew gained notoriety when they performed at Amigos Cantina in early 2022 over a grueling 13-week challenge which culminated in a three-hour finale at the Hilo Palace Theater.

Casey808 is another Hilo native. He started rapping at the age of 13 and by 15 had won first prize at an M.C. Battle held at the Hilo civic. He has continued to develop his own sound and push out local favorites such as “Weird Flex,” “Pakalolo” and “Loyalty.”
